The Yamaha Club Custom series (which features the famous "Midnight Green Confetti" lacquer finish) was in production for a very limited run, only produced from 2011 to 2013. This tom was made in the first year, 2011. These drums are highly sought-after and this is the rarest finish.
Overview of the Yamaha Club Custom (2011-2013)
Design & Finish: Developed in tandem with Steve Jordan, who helped inspire the retro swirl finish. The "Midnight Green Confetti" finish is a painted lacquer, rather than a synthetic wrap, allowing the shell to breathe and resonate fully.
Years: The line was sadly discontinued after only 2 years when Yamaha relocated the production of their high-end drum lines to a factory in Hangzhou, China. Because of their short production window and unique specs, they are highly collectible on the used market.
Specs:
Wood & Shell Material: Built using 6-ply, 100% Kapur wood (an Asian hardwood). Kapur delivers a warmer, much richer low-end and mid-frequency resonance that mimics old-school vintage drums.
Bearing Edges: Uses rounded bearing edges. Rounded edges increase the contact between the drumhead and the wood, producing a warm, dark, and "woody" tone with a shorter sustain.
Hardware & Tom Mounts: Features lightweight vintage-style lugs and 1.6mm hoops, which allow the wood to breathe and maximize natural sustain and resonance. These are NOT YESS format.
Target Sound and Application: Ideal for jazz, blues, classic rock, and folk. It provides a versatile, booming sound with a strong, fat bass drum (often configured with shallow 15" depths for punch).
