Advice needed-new to selling guitars

I've recently come into possession of some guitars that I plan to sell. From your experiences, what is the best way to ship guitars, with or without cases? What shipping service is best?
Since guitars are generally the same size & shape about how much does it cost to ship east to west coast-east to midwest?
Any advice appreciated, too much info welcomed.

There are music shops local to me that will sell the boxes that their customers did not need for in-store purchases. I got one for about 10 bucks once, which was OK with me - it was in-hand, easy to get, and did not have to worry about someone shipping it to me. So, might be worth it to check that out.

There is also some good into on the internet about packing and shipping guitars - I used that once for my one-and-only guitar sale with shipping. It worked OK :) Lots of bubble wrap, and I lined the box with extra cardboard. I used FedEx ground as it was cheaper, and they were OK.

Thank you Jason, that info will help me. Any experience heavily shrink-wrapping the guitar in case and simply putting a mailing label on it???

My first listing of a guitar is now live. I'm quite curious to see how it all plays-but fear not!----I love finding good homes for used gear and working with fellow musicians.

Interesting - I had done shrink-wrap before, but that does not sound like a bad idea. Would keep hydration in and water (or other liquids) out, so it might be a good things to try. I just taped the heck out of it and put the label on :) So much tape ...

I might just discuss that option for shipping with the buyer if sold. I've done it with cymbals and chrome drum rims. No complaints that I know of. Oh well, it's always good to have options because shipping prices are mind numbing...there is sticker shock depending on weight and distance shipped. Thanks again Jason.

Too obvious to sticky fingers, Dean. I shipped drums in drum cases with no box a long time ago and had some Gretsch drums stolen by a UPS worker. Use a box. I don't believe UPS insurance will cover a guitar in just a case.

go to ups.com and get a business account for a 15 to 25% discount. You don't have to have a "business".

Valid point, George. When I pack gear, I'm thinking protection from damage, not theft. But the unscrupulous never rest, do they? Sorry to hear about your stolen drums. I appreciate the insight. I will heed your advice. Thank you.
